Colours of Courage
Wear it Purple Day empowers LGBTQIA+ youth to dream big and celebrate their "Colours of Courage."聽By wearing purple, we celebrate and respect rainbow young people, and let them know that they have the right to be proud of who they are and who they are becoming.
For young LGBTQIA+ people, the theme 鈥淐olours of Courage鈥 celebrates the many different forms of courage shown by LGBTQIA+SB young people, allies and communities every day. Courage can look like speaking up, standing out and creating change. It can also take quieter forms of bravery, like living authentically, coming out, asking for support, standing beside someone or choosing pride and hope in spaces where being yourself does not always feel easy.

Ways to be an active ally:
- Educate yourself on聽LGBTQIA+ identities and history聽
- Use inclusive language regardless of your audience
- Introduce yourself with your pronouns and include them in your email signature
- Don鈥檛 make assumptions about someone's gender or sexuality聽
- Provide an open mind, ear and confidential space for聽LGBTQIA+ friends, family and colleagues
- Be an active bystander if you witness instances of homophobia/transphobia/biphobia/interphobia, no matter how big or small
- Use some of the , including meeting backgrounds.

Wear it Purple 2026 Resources
About Wear it Purple
is an Australian organisation that works to support safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people. They work with schools, universities and youth organisations to provide resources, education and opportunities for LGBTQIA+ youth to engage in community.
Every year, on the last Friday of August (28聽August in 2026), Wear it Purple encourages schools, universities and workplaces to run events that encourage the development of safe and inclusive spaces.聽
The 2026 theme is "Colours of Courage," which recognises the bravery it takes to push for change in schools, workplaces, communities and institutions where conversations about LGBTQIA+SB lives do not always happen. It celebrates the allies who choose to stand up, speak out and ask what they can do to help create safer, more inclusive spaces.
What started out small has now grown; however the message remains the same. Everybody has the right to be proud of who they are.
