91É«Ç鯬-GWI regularly supports the in carrying out global surveys of National Water Leaders.

Water ministers, national water agency heads and others with national water leadership responsibilities are invited to share their experience, perspectives and opinions on water policy issues. 

The aggregated opinions and perspectives of these Ministers and top officials are outlined in Water Policy Reports, which often provide inputs into important intergovernmental processes such as United Nations Water Conferences.

2026 Global Water Policy Report: Listening to National Water Leaders

The 2026 Global Water Policy Report: Listening to National Water Leaders was released on 14 July 2026 at the United Nations Economic and Social Council High Level Political Forum (HLPF), during the side event on ‘Accelerating Momentum Towards the 2026 UN Water Conference’.

The report was designed to contribute to the proposed 2026 UNWC Interactive Dialogues, sharing national water leaders' views on:

  1. The most significant water risks and challenges facing their countries.
  2. Progress towards the SDG 6 targets—including which SDG 6 targets are achievable and where any barriers lie.
  3. How international processes can best support improved national water outcomes.
  4. How water policy can be better integrated with other areas of public policy.

About Water Policy Group

The Water Policy Group is a facility for governments and international bodies to access water sector experts with direct experience in working with water policy issues within governments and international bodies.

The Water Policy Group is comprised of water sector experts who have been decision makers and trusted advisers within governments and international bodies handling complex water policy and strategy. They are able to advise governments and influencers on water policy options and implementation strategies.

Members of the Water Policy Group have the common goal that their knowledge, networks and experience can help achieve the sustainable development of water resources.
