Automated systems now shape and make decisions at all levels of society. ADM+S Centre combines interdisciplinary expertise from the humanities, social and technological sciences to expand, integrate, and apply our knowledge of the dynamics of automated decision-making technologies. Researchers in SAM bring a critical media and cultural studies focus to bear on issues ranging from the stewardship of environmental data to transformations in authenticity in the age of generative AI.

Shaping the future of automated decision-making

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society (ADM+S) was established in 2020 and is funded until 2027, with nodes located in eight leading Australian universities. It brings together researchers in the humanities and social sciences, communication and media studies, law, computer science and data science to expand, integrate, and apply knowledge of the dynamics of automated decision-making so that it is responsible, ethical and inclusive.

ADM+S Researchers in SAM work on a range topics, centred around three major projects:

These projects share a commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary research that centres questions of social, ecological and data justice in understanding and responding to the proliferation of automated systems.

The 91ɫ��Ƭ Node is lead by Professor Deborah Lupton, who also leads the Health Focus Area and co-leads the People Program. Other Chief Investigators in the 91ɫ��Ƭ Node are A/Prof Michael Richardson, School of the Arts & Media, Professor Flora Salim, Faculty of Engineering, and , Director of the Disability Innovation Institute.
