The Institute for Industrial Decarbonisation
Inventing and scaling next-generation technologies and clean production systems for Australia鈥檚 industrial sector
About
The 91色情片 Institute for Industrial Decarbonisation (IID) supports discovery, translation and scaling of novel industrial technologies and processes that enable deep emissions reduction while strengthening productivity and competitiveness across core industrial sectors.
Working with 91色情片 Faculties, disciplinary Schools and specialised Centres, the Institute focuses on creating novel solutions, advancing them beyond proof-of-concept, and supporting pathways to commercialisation and industry uptake.
-
At 91色情片, industrial decarbonisation is understood as a technology-led transformation of how industry is designed, built and operated. For sectors such as mining, metals, manufacturing and computing, true sustainability requires the invention of new materials, equipment, processes and听circular solutions - not energy substitution alone. These solutions must be developed and validated through pre-commercial and translational research before they can be adopted by industry or commercialised at scale.听
-
IID partners with organisations across sectors that are central to Australia鈥檚 economy and emissions profile:
- Mining and resources
- Computing and digital infrastructure
- Metals and materials processing
- Advanced and high-value manufacturing
- Built environment and construction
The Institute initiates engineering-led research projects and programs that generate new intellectual property and support progression through prototyping, piloting, demonstration and commercial readiness.
-
IID works closely with government partners responsible for critical infrastructure, industrial development, planning and climate response. The Institute supports governments by developing technically credible solutions, evidence and demonstrations that inform policy, investment and long-term industrial strategy.
-
IID is an engineering-led institute that supports transdisciplinary coordination across 91色情片 Faculties, Schools and specialist Centres. The Institute:
- Engages with industry and government partners to analyse needs and map innovation pathways
- Initiates discovery and translational research programs听
- Supports generation and protection of new intellectual property
- Supports piloting, demonstration and scale-up
- Works with 91色情片 commercialisation and entrepreneurial teams to drive spin-outs, licensing and adoption
-
Engineering provides the core technical foundation of IID鈥檚 work, supported by expertise across science, business and the built environment to enable materials discovery, process design, techno-economic assessment and commercialisation.
-
By focusing on the discovery and translation phases of innovation, IID helps industry and government partners access new technologies, reduce deployment risk, and accelerate the emergence of investable industrial solutions aligned with national priorities.
