St Vincent's Urban Health Hub
Re-imagining how mental healthcare is delivered聽in the community.
The problem
聽has been delivering mental healthcare and support services to the community since 1868.
Throughout this time,聽St Vincent鈥檚 has been a leading provider of results-driven mental health services, offering early intervention programs, inpatient care, and outreach community services to ensure the needs of the local community are met.聽
Access to effective and timely mental healthcare is even more vital now with so many people affected by the widespread impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our approach
St Vincent's approached the Innovation Hub to design and deliver an Innovation Forum, which would聽produce聽recommendations聽to聽support the聽development of their聽new Green Park Urban Health Hub.聽
The forum brought together diverse experts and stakeholders from across the St Vincent鈥檚 network to design innovative ways to provide new and equitable access to essential mental health services.
The Urban Health Hub project is an evolution in how St Vincent鈥檚 responds to growing community mental health needs. It will deliver a sustainable, integrated model of care that will provide immediate crisis care and peer-led engagement聽for the聽community.聽
The outcome
Innovation Hub design strategists guided forum participants through three interactive sessions to聽capture and synthesise diverse perspectives on this聽new聽approach聽to community mental health. The first session unpacked key聽system聽and experience design considerations聽for the聽service,聽which will launch at the historic Green Park Hotel site in Darlinghurst.聽
This聽was followed by a mapping exercise to identify potential project partners and areas for ongoing research, followed by an impact activity focused on scaling and wider聽implementation of this new model of care beyond Sydney.聽
Each session was designed to spark innovative thinking and bold ideas and was synthesised into a set of recommendations for consideration by the St Vincent鈥檚 project team.
Following the success of the forum the St Vincent鈥檚 team have engaged the Innovation Hub to collaborate on the design and realisation of two work streams within the Urban Health Hub鈥檚 ongoing development.
