Health Technology Innovation: Clinical Immersion (BIOM9910)
In May 2024, 91É«ÇéƬ launched Health Technology Innovation: Clinical Immersion (BIOM9910), an inspiring course that takes biomedical engineering students beyond lectures into hospitals and clinics. Offered each Term 2, it challenges students to think deeply, observe critically, and transform theory into solutions for real clinical problems. From immersive site visits to reflective practice, students build the confidence to collaborate across disciplines and communicate complex issues clearly.
The Vertically Integrated Project (VIP) program brings together Engineering and Medical students into powerful multidisciplinary teams from second year to postgraduate research. Working on real clinical and patient outcome design projects, students build critical thinking, design, and teamwork skills while gaining industry collaboration and entrepreneurial experience.
Tyree IHealthE VIP Projects | Connected Health
This research is developing wearable and smartphone-based technology to monitor the health of chronically ill patients and the elderly – tracking weight, oxygen, lung function, medication use, blood pressure, exercise, heart rhythm, and lifestyle changes.Â
Assistive Tech Hub
Assistive Tech Hub (ENGG3060) is an exciting course which makes a real impact on the lives of others. Students co-design and prototype an assistive technology with a real client with a disability to improve their lifestyle. The course has been designed to provide students with a theoretical and practical understanding of the application of biomechanics in physical rehabilitation (no prior knowledge is required).
Honours & Masters
Open to Biomedical Engineering students, Tyree IHealthE supports opportunities for students to develop medical apps and systems (with hardware) co-designed with clinicians from a number of organisations, including: ,Ìý, and . This professional experience is designed to benefit both the Honours students and clinicians by engaging in the co-design of solutions. Tyree IHealthE facilitates meetings to first gather functional requirements (Thesis A), create a design (Thesis B), and Develop (Thesis C).
