91É«ÇéƬ is continuing to invest in its campus through a broader redevelopment program that supports education, research and student experience, while managing access to the Kensington campus.

The proposed Barker Street Parking Station upgrade is intended to meet future demand, provide accessible parking options for those who need it and improve parking management.

It will centralise parking for staff and visitors, reduce internal vehicle traffic and improve overall safety, and ease parking pressure and congestion on local streets.

The proposal includes the construction of three additional storeys on top of the existing structure, delivering around 500 additional parking spaces (approximately 1,400 in total).  The project aligns with our ongoing efforts to prioritise public and active transport, including investment in hundreds of new electric vehicle parking spaces, a significant increase in bike parking, end-of-trip facilities and broader sustainable travel initiatives. The parking station is designed as an all-electric building, with rooftop solar, energy-efficient lighting and the use of bore water.

This project will improve the user experience for students, staff and visitors by increasing parking capacity and providing end-of-trip facilities. Importantly, the additional parking spaces will help to reduce parking demand on surrounding streets, while the construction of a new signalised intersection at Barker Street and Southern Drive (Gate 14) will improve pedestrian safety.
