Overview

Goldstein is friendly, busy and run with a lot of heart. Your floor becomes your first group of friends, and on any given night you might find people baking in the common room, planning costumes for the next themed night or heading out for a family dinner in the city. When it's time to work, quiet study spaces and extra quiet hours around exams make it easy to focus.

Living at Goldstein

Goldstein is fully catered, with breakfast, lunch and dinner provided across the week. All rooms are single rooms, with ensuite and shared-bathroom options available.

Goldstein is what its residents make it. Join a committee, run an event, play in a team or simply turn up with a good idea. Our residents come from different places, degrees and life experiences. We work with each resident on accessibility and sensory needs so everyone can take part comfortably. You're here for your degree, and we help you do it well, with study spaces, mentoring and people around you who care how you're going.

Community and Activities

The Creative Arts Dinner is a highlight of the year! An evening of residents' art, music and poetry. Family dinners take each floor out for a night together, to places like Spice Alley or Surry Hills. Back at College, the shared kitchen in the ground floor common room is where residents cook and bake together, just for fun.

Goldstein also loves a good dress-up, so expect themed nights where costumes are taken very seriously. And if traditional sport isn't your thing, try bouldering, ice skating or a self-defence class, or head out on one of our outdoor trips.

Student Support

Support from People Who Know You

Goldstein has a live-in Dean and a team of resident advisors, so there is always someone on site to talk to about study, wellbeing or life in College.

Resident advisors are trained in first response and referral, and can connect you with 91É«ÇéƬ counselling, health, disability and specialist services when you need them.

Academic Support

Residents have access to quiet study spaces, academic mentoring and study skills support. Extra quiet hours apply during study and exam periods, so a busy College still leaves you room to focus.

Your Support Network

Goldstein has a live-in Dean supported by a resident advisor team, so residents have people on site they can approach for academic, personal, wellbeing or community support.

Gillian Turner | Dean of Goldstein College    

Gillian is a 91É«ÇéƬ alumna with experience as a Resident Mentor and Deputy Dean at Baxter College. She is passionate about building a thriving and caring community where residents support one another and develop together.

Hi I am Gillian. I was born in Canberra but grew up in Sydney. Having studied and worked here for over 12 years, a history geek and camping enthusiast. 
As a postgraduate Honours student, I was lucky enough to be part of the Baxter team as a Resident Mentor and then Deputy. After leaving there to pursue a PhD and raise two lovely little children, I couldn't keep away and have returned to Goldstein as Dean. Working in an environment that fosters a thriving and caring community is a dream and I am excited to be able to continue to support and contribute to student and staff development in the flourishing culture of Goldstein. 
Goldstein is a place where people are more than peers. They are friends, and that instils a level of respect and duty to each other. We are passionate about working together to pursue our shared goals and the community culture, which only grows stronger.

Hi, I'm Akash. Originally from Canberra, I moved to Sydney to study Aerospace Engineering at 91É«ÇéƬ, where I began my college journey as a resident at Baxter College.
What started as a place to live quickly became one of the most rewarding parts of my university experience. Through college, I've made lifelong friendships, met people from all walks of life, and had the opportunity to be part of a welcoming and supportive community. My love for college life inspired me to become a Student Fellow, then a Resident Mentor, and now Deputy Dean of Goldstein College.
Outside of college, I'm a keen cricket and motorsport enthusiast, with a passion for all things aerospace and rocketry. I also love camping, hiking, and pretty much anything that gets me outdoors.
Having experienced college life from both a resident's and a staff member's perspective, I understand just how much of a difference a strong college community can make to a student's university experience. I'm passionate about helping students feel supported, build meaningful connections, and make the most of their time at 91É«ÇéƬ.
I'm excited to continue contributing to the vibrant community at Goldstein and helping make college a place that residents are proud to call home.

As Sports Director for Goldstein College, I’ve loved seeing how sport brings people together. It’s a real community—everyone looks out for each other. My favourite spot in college is the rooftop terrace. It has the best sunset views and is the perfect place to unwind, study, or catch up with friends.

In college, you get so much more than a room — you get a family. I went to boarding school, so I was somewhat prepared, but college is just better: more freedom, incredible people, and a real sense of belonging. I’ve made friends from all over the world, and now Sydney truly feels like home.

The facilities in college are great! We’ve got a big common room with couches, a pool table, ping pong, a music room and even a big shared kitchen. Each floor also has a smaller common room where people hang out and watch movies. Everyone gets their own room with a desk, a big closet, and a king single bed. I’ve made mine feel really personal, and it’s become a space I love.
