I am a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Population Health at 91色情片 Sydney and an Adjunct Professional Fellow in the Faculty of Engineering and IT at the University of Technology Sydney. I am a nurse researcher, injury epidemiologist and health data scientist whose work connects clinical practice, population health and health-service improvement.
My research focuses on how routinely collected health data can be used to understand injury and preventable harm, improve surveillance and strengthen health-system responses. I lead the Medical Research Future Fund鈥檚 National Injury Surveillance for Actionable Research 鈥 Emergency Department (NISAR-ED) program, which is developing new approaches to identify and classify injury presentations using emergency department data, artificial intelligence and ICD-11.
My work is grounded in more than 20 years of engagement with health care, research and public health, including a clinical background in emergency and critical care nursing. I am particularly interested in research that is relevant to nurses and other frontline health professionals, including the quality of clinical documentation, the use of health information for decision-making, injury prevention, self-harm and suicide prevention, family and domestic violence, traumatic spinal cord injury, health-service evaluation and health economics.
I work with health services, government agencies, clinicians, researchers, data custodians and industry partners to translate complex data into practical evidence for safer systems and better patient outcomes. A key focus of my work is building research capability across disciplines and supporting nurses and other health professionals to engage confidently with epidemiology, evaluation, data science and implementation research.
I also contribute actively to public health education and research training. I convene PHCM2009 Planning and Evaluating Public Health Programs and supervise students across nursing-related health research, epidemiology, injury surveillance, health data science, clinical artificial intelligence, health information management, public health evaluation and One Health.
