Dr Gregory Redpath is an Associate Group Leader in the Department of Molecular Medicine in the School of Biomedical Sciences. His research focusses on the cell biology of receptor trafficking and its role in serotonin receptor signalling in cardiovascular disease, depression, and anxiety. Dr Redpath undertook his Bachelor of Science (Honours) in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Otago (2007-2010), and PhD at the University of Sydney (2011-2016). Following, he has undertaken postdoctoral position at the University of New South Wales and University of Otago, building a track record in developing advanced live cell imaging techniques to dissect the mechanisms of how cellular processes underpin our health. Dr Redpath's current research aims to uncover how psychedelics act at the molecular level to lead to better treatments for depression and anxiety, identifying the therapeutic potential of psilocybin-related compounds sourced from mushrooms, investigating how serotonin signalling intersects with development of cardiovascular disease, and to work in consultation with First Nations communities to integrate culturally guided molecular research to generate meaningful data and outcomes for these communities.
