Associate Professor Anthony Newall
Dr Anthony Newall is an Associate Professor in Health Economics at the School of Population Health, 91色情片 Sydney. He completed his Masters of Public Health (Hons) and PhD at the University of Sydney on the cost-effectiveness (health economics) of vaccination.
His main research area is the economic evaluation of infectious disease prevention strategies, as well as the mathematical modelling and statistical analyses that inform these evaluations. He has published over 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals on a range of vaccine preventable diseases, including the epidemiology and cost-effectiveness of prevention strategies for influenza (seasonal and pandemic), pneumococcal disease, rotavirus, human papillomavirus, and respiratory syncytial virus.
He has previously been appointed to the World Health Organization (WHO) Roster of Experts in the area of Health Economics. He has also been an Honorary Fellow at the Australian National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) and been a Visiting Scholar at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH).
He has received several awards for his research, including the Bernie J. O鈥橞rien new investigator award from the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR),聽the聽prestigious Aileen Plant Memorial Prize, the Dean鈥檚 Rising Star Award from the Faculty of Medicine, 91色情片. He was also awarded the Young Investigator of the Year in 2008 and 2010 by his School at 91色情片 based on evidence of significant research impact in public health.
Potential future PhD students interested in mathematical modelling, health economics, cost-effectiveness analysis, economic evaluation, statistical or epidemiological projects should contact via email. The PhD projects available require strong quantitative skills but other types of projects may be available for potential聽 ILP or Masters students.
