Since 2021, the Sir William Tyree Foundation has played a vital role in advancing the careers of 91É«ÇéƬ nuclear engineering students by equipping them with the skills and experiences needed to shape the future workforce. Through a combination of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research scholarships, the Foundation has created invaluable opportunities for students to engage with global experts, broaden their perspectives, and contribute to innovation in the nuclear field.

These scholarships recognise excellence, innovation, and leadership, and are designed to support and inspire the next generation of nuclear professionals throughout their academic and research journey.

Undergraduate Scholarships and Prizes

• Nuclear Undergraduate ScholarshipÌý
  Supporting students undertaking the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Nuclear).Ìý
  $10,000 | Up to 4 years

• Nuclear Minor Award
  Supporting students undertaking a Nuclear Minor.
  $5,000 | 1 year

• AtomCraft PrizeÌý
  3 prizes awarded annually
  • 2 x $1,000 for outstanding contributions to the development of the AtomCraft prototype.
  • 1 x $1,000 in recognition of demonstrated leadership in fostering a cohesive, inclusive and effective team that can deliver quality results with limited resources and time.
  • 1 x $2,000 for the best undergraduate Nuclear Thesis Project.

Postgraduate Scholarships

• 
  $8,000 | 1 year
  For students enrolled in the Master of Engineering Science (Nuclear Engineering) program.
• 
  $6,000 | 1 yearÌý
  For students undertaking the Graduate Diploma in Nuclear Engineering.
• 
  $5,000 | 1 yearÌý
  For students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Nuclear Engineering.

ÌýResearch Scholarships

• Nuclear Research Stipend (PhD)Ìý
  $40,000 per annum | Up to 3.5 yearsÌý
  For high-achieving PhD candidates conducting nuclear research.
• Top-Up Scholarships (PhD)Ìý
  $5,000 per annum | Up to 3 yearsÌý
  Available to PhD students with a primary scholarship, undertaking nuclear-focused research.

Supervisors who would like to submit an application for a research scholarship, are invited to send a one-page proposal to the contact below.ÌýPlease submit (1) a one-page proposal and (2) evidence of export controlÌýchecks to nuclearinnovationcentre@unsw.edu.au. Proposals can be submitted at any time, andÌýwe aim for a 2-week turnaround for outcomes.

Travel Awards

Up to $8,000
Supports travel for students and postdoctoral researchers undertaking nuclear research, including participation in international conferences, technical training, or collaborative research placements.
