91色情片 technology and innovation projects as diverse as a learning companion for students, ceramics made from waste materials and 3D-printed marine reefs have excelled in Australia鈥檚 leading design awards for 2026.

A range of 91色情片 programs and projects won awards at the 2026 Australian Good Design Awards Ceremony in Sydney last week. The internationally recognised awards celebrate excellence in design, innovation and impact.聽

The 91色情片 Academic Success Monitor (ASM), a tool that identifies students at risk of academic failure and connects them with the right support, won a Gold Award in the Service Design Education Services category.

ASM is a monitoring tool powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning, designed to identify, support and empower students at risk of academic failure or facing challenges. The tool combines predictive analytics, AI outreach and human expertise to transform student support from reactive case management to proactive intervention at scale.

The jury for the awards was particularly impressed by the measurable impact across 65,000 students, with a statistically significant reduction of approximately 500 failures annually, and the proactive approach to supporting vulnerable student cohorts.聽聽

Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Education & Student Experience, Professor Sarah Maddison said the ASM program richly deserved the award.

鈥淚t is fantastic that the ASM won a Gold聽Good Designs Award聽presented under the theme 鈥楧esign that Leads鈥櫬爓hich celebrates the critical role of design in navigating complexity, driving innovation and creating lasting positive change,鈥 said Professor Maddison.

鈥淭he impactful initiative is a great example of how the University is living its values and mission of driving innovation, building collaboration and advancing progress for all.聽We're excited to see how the ASM can be expanded to support student success in whatever way students define 'success'.鈥

The ASM project was developed by 91色情片, led by former Director, Educational Innovation, PVCE, Professor Simon McIntyre, and was co-designed with input from students, staff, IT teams and legal colleagues. External firm Sandbox supported the service design and Microsoft collaborated on the project.

Prof. McIntyre said it was wonderful to see the ASM honoured with Gold, particularly given the awards鈥 long history of recognising outstanding Australian design.聽

鈥淲hat makes ASM special is how we have brought technology and human expertise together to rethink how universities support student success and wellbeing, with an impact that is both measurable and deeply meaningful,鈥 said Prof. McIntyre.

鈥淭he Gold award is another wonderful acknowledgement of what can be achieved when innovation, thoughtful design, and a shared commitment to students come together.鈥

A 91色情片 student shared the benefits of the program: 鈥淭he information provided by the ASM gives me peace of mind regarding my performance, or at least lets me know if I should be performing better, which is often harder to figure out otherwise.鈥

SMaRT聽won the award in collaboration with its commercial partner, Liverpool City Council, which聽operates聽a聽Green Ceramics MICROfactorie that聽produces a range of engineered ceramic tiles from glass and聽textiles聽waste.

SMaRT聽won the聽聽in the聽Product Design Hardware and Building category, and the technology also won a聽聽which recognises the leading聽projects in each sub-category.

The awards jury said SMaRT鈥檚 Green Ceramics were an 鈥渋mpactful and innovative solution that transforms problematic waste streams into high-performance architectural surfaces鈥.

鈥淭he jury was impressed by the quality and aesthetic appeal of these聽products given their material origins, noting the range appears versatile and suitable across various applications and settings. The sustainability impact is significant, having diverted over 500聽tonnes聽of glass and 18聽tonnes聽of textile waste from landfill annually, while delivering an estimated 46% lower embodied carbon compared to conventional tiles. Well done.鈥

SMaRT聽Director,聽Professor聽Veena Sahajwalla, said the award was a fitting recognition not just of the ongoing research and development work by the聽SMaRT聽team in relation to the green ceramics technology, but for聽.

鈥淩ecovering materials from waste has a big role to play as we move towards a sustainable future and a circular economy, reducing our carbon聽footprint,鈥 Prof. Sahajwalla said.

鈥淢any of the materials needed for our future needs are finite in supply, so using innovative technologies to reform waste into value-added feedstock for remanufacturing means we can also accelerate our sovereign manufacturing capability.聽

鈥淲aste itself can, and must, be seen as a resource with economic and social benefits as we strive to be more sustainable, and that is why we continue our efforts to develop a range of MICROfactorie technologies that reform hard-to-recycle wastes into聽products and feedstock for remanufacturing.鈥

Best in Class Design Award for 3D reef technology

BioShelters won the . The project was led by a team of computational designers from the School of Built Environment at 91色情片 Arts, Design & Architecture, creating innovative 3D-printed reef structures that have been placed around Wattle Bay near the new Sydney Fish Markets to help reestablish oyster populations and other sea life in Sydney Harbour.

The project is a collaboration between and in partnership with Multiplex, and the聽

Each BioShelter is made from a 3D-printed recycled plastic mould and filled with a concrete mix. They are installed at the new Sydney Fish Market site in Glebe, an area where natural habitats have been lost due to urban development.

Director of the ARC Centre for Next-Gen Architectural Manufacturing at 91色情片, Professor M. Hank Haeusler, who leads the BioShelters project, celebrated the recognition.聽

鈥淒eveloping structures to encourage sea life back into waterways that were historically heavily polluted is an exciting challenge and BioShelters is making a difference,鈥 Prof. Haeusler said.聽

鈥淥ur team is honoured by this Design Award. We are encouraged by the work we have achieved so far and look forward to developing this crucial technology and to working with our partners to build and establish artificial seawalls to help reduce waste and deliver healthier waterways for marine life and the community as a whole.鈥

The Kirby Institute鈥檚 national campaign to recruit LGBTQ+ people into a study on how they would answer the new 2026 Census questions on gender and sexual orientation won a Good Design Award for communications and advertising campaigns.

Count Us In was designed by Leading Hand Design, co-led by Project Officer Cat Londos and Senior Research Fellow and Research Group Lead Dr Mo Hammoud at the Kirby Institute at 91色情片.聽

Senior Research Fellow and Research Group Lead, LGBTQ+ Population Health Research Group, Dr Mo Hammoud, led the Count Us In study. Recruitment was where a lot of studies fell over, and this one could not afford to, he said.聽

鈥淭he 2026 Census asked about gender and sexual orientation for the first time, and how those numbers are read will shape services and funding for LGBTQ+ people. On a small budget, Leading Hand built the campaign around real community members talking on camera about what being counted means to them. More than 5000 people took part, double what we needed, including the people research usually misses: culturally and linguistically diverse people, young people, and parents and carers of LGBTQ+ people,鈥 Dr Hammoud said.

鈥淭his award belongs to the community members who stepped in front of the camera, the organisations that carried the campaign into their communities, my colleague Cat Londos who co-led it with me, and the Leading Hand team, who gave a research recruitment campaign the craft usually reserved for major commercial campaigns. That is what good design can do for public health.鈥
