Landmark $55 million medical research centre opens in South West Sydney

The聽collaborative聽new聽facility聽will focus on improving聽health outcomes聽for聽people facing聽complex聽and chronic issues including聽diabetes, mental health聽challenges聽and addiction.

A new聽state-of-the-art聽facility that puts聽south-western聽Sydney at the forefront of medical research聽has officially opened.聽The Lang Walker AO Medical Research Building,聽located聽in Macarthur,聽is聽a hub for local patients and communities to access聽world class聽research and clinical care.

Part of Campbelltown Hospital聽Campus, the purpose-built multistorey聽centre聽brings together聽local and international researchers,聽clinicians聽and postgraduate students to聽help close聽the gap between聽the聽community聽and access to clinical research and care.聽

NSW Premier Chris Minns joined leaders from聽91色情片 Sydney, Western Sydney University,聽South Western聽Sydney Local Health District and the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research to聽open聽the聽facility.

Premier Minns said he looked forward to what the new Lang Walker Medical Research Facility would deliver.聽

A legacy of聽change and transformation

The聽world class聽facility聽honours聽the late Lang Walker AO, whose legacy reflects聽a deep聽commitment聽to philanthropy and聽to driving change through transformative public and private聽building聽projects.聽

NSW Health Minister Ryan Park聽thanked Lang Walker鈥檚 family,聽the Walker Group and the partners involved in聽delivering the聽project and聽said it聽would be a vital part of the Campbelltown Health and Education Precinct.

鈥淭his will be a hub of innovation, collaboration, education and research which will transform health care and impact the lives of the聽1.2 million residents聽expected to call this region home from 2031.鈥

鈥淲ith decades of collaboration in health, education and research across the region, this facility is a powerful extension of聽that legacy,鈥 he said.聽

鈥淭hrough this partnership, 91色情片 is leveraging its world-leading research expertise and capabilities to deepen engagement with the Macarthur community, addressing urgent health challenges and delivering transformative, real-world outcomes.鈥

Improving access聽to specialists聽

The new facility,聽home to the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research 鈥 Macarthur,聽is a聽major聽addition to the聽Campbelltown Health and Education聽Precinct and聽builds聽on聽the NSW Government鈥檚 $632 million Stage 2聽redevelopment of Campbelltown Hospital,聽completed in 2024.聽

Researchers in the聽centre聽will focus on complex health聽problems, including mental health, diabetes,聽child health and wellbeing聽and addiction medicine.聽Their work will聽also聽support聽better聽health outcomes聽for Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.聽

The facility has been developed in partnership between 91色情片 Sydney, Western Sydney University,聽South Western聽Sydney Local Health District and聽the聽Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research,聽with聽financial, development and delivery聽support聽from聽the Walker Corporation.

Sonia Marshall,聽South Western聽Sydney Local Health District Chief Executive,聽said聽the Institute will provide local residents and communities聽access to specialist researchers and clinicians.聽
