Creating a living campus

The Muru Mirrung Trail is entering an exciting new chapter, expanding across Kensington campus to create richer habitats for native flora and fauna while celebrating First Nations knowledge, language and culture.

Delivered by 91色情片 Estate Management, the project is creating more than a network of native landscapes. It provides new opportunities for students, staff and visitors to engage with nature, learn about Country and experience the campus in new ways.

"The Muru Mirrung Trail represents the kind of campus we're striving to create 鈥 one where people feel connected to Country, to culture and to one another. It's a lasting investment in biodiversity, education and a stronger sense of belonging for our community." 鈥 Professor Leanne Holt, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Indigenous

Formerly known as the Green Trail, the project has been renamed the Muru Mirrung Trail, meaning 鈥減ath of belonging.鈥 The new name reflects the project鈥檚 purpose of celebrating First Nations cultures while fostering a stronger sense of belonging for everyone who learns, works and visits 91色情片.

Supporting a Nature Positive future

The project forms an important part of 91色情片鈥檚 and Environmental Sustainability Plan, creating healthier, more resilient campus environments where people and nature can thrive together.

Over the coming months, the Trail will introduce:

  • native planting across campus locations
  • habitat features, including insect hotels
  • interpretive signage
  • interactive digital experiences
  • First Nations language and cultural storytelling.

An interactive map and dedicated website will help the 91色情片 community explore the Trail, discover the stories behind the landscapes and deepen connections with Country.

Building on a strong foundation

The project builds on the success of Phase 1, completed in 2024, when more than 25 students and staff planted 265 native bush food plants across 26 species with guidance from Indigenous-owned social enterprise IndigiGrow.

As work progresses, some existing garden beds will be transformed to create healthier conditions for native species and improve biodiversity across the campus. While these areas may temporarily look different during preparation and planting, they are laying the foundations for more resilient landscapes that will support local wildlife for years to come.

The project will also celebrate existing cultural assets, including Sanggaw芒 鈥 Paloob sa labas (Getting into the out), the Philippine mural on the northern wall of the Central Lecture Block. Specialist conservation works and improvements to the surrounding landscape will help preserve and better showcase the artwork as part of the broader campus experience.
