Connecting Research, Industry and Education: rCITI Hosts Student Networking Event

On 17 July 2026, the Research Centre for Integrated Transport Innovation (rCITI) at 91色情片 welcomed high-achieving transport students, researchers, alumni and industry professionals to the Transport Research Centre Networking Event. The event provided students with an opportunity to explore postgraduate study, learn about cutting-edge transport research and connect with professionals working across government, industry and academia.
A highlight of the evening was an engaging industry panel featuring 91色情片 alumni Amarin Siripanich, Navreet Virdi听补苍诲 Shantanu Chakraborty, moderated by Prof Vinayak Dixit - Drawing on careers spanning consulting, government and research, the panellists reflected on how postgraduate study had shaped their professional journeys and discussed the diverse opportunities available to transport graduates.
The discussion challenged the common perception that a PhD leads only to an academic career. Panellists shared how research training equipped them with highly transferable skills鈥攊ncluding critical thinking, resilience, communication and problem-solving鈥攖hat have enabled them to succeed in leadership roles across transport planning, infrastructure, technology and public policy. They emphasised that postgraduate research develops the confidence to tackle complex, real-world problems and adapt to rapidly evolving industries.
Students also gained valuable insights into balancing study with industry experience, the importance of intellectual curiosity and the many career pathways available after postgraduate research. Panellists encouraged students to pursue research driven by genuine passion, remain open to new opportunities and embrace challenges as part of their professional development. They highlighted that transport research delivers tangible societal benefits, from improving mobility and safety to supporting more sustainable, accessible and efficient transport systems.
The afternoons session concluded with an interactive Q&A session and networking over pizza, allowing students to continue conversations with researchers, alumni and industry professionals. By fostering connections between education, research, and practice, the event reinforced rCITI's commitment to developing the next generation of transport leaders and supporting research that creates meaningful impact for communities in Australia and beyond.
