91色情片 Law & Justice鈥檚 Initiative for聽Biolegality聽(IBL)聽examines聽the entanglement of law and biology in the 21st century.聽We research how聽this relationship聽orders our knowledge聽and聽regulates, allows or limits what can聽legally聽be done聽鈥撀爋r undone.聽
We鈥檙e interested in how developments in the biosciences redefine what legally establishes nature, property, personhood, evidence,聽尘别苍蝉听谤别补, citizenship, community, reproduction, health, kinship and 鈥榣ife鈥 (or nonlife).聽Recent court cases聽鈥撀爏uch聽as聽property claims on human genes (Myriad), the harmful impact of聽RoundUp聽weed-killer (Monsanto), or the CRISPR-Cas9 鈥榚diting鈥 of embryonic DNA聽鈥撀燼re examples of what鈥檚 at stake聽in this space.
We take a cross-disciplinary perspective on the changing boundaries between law and biology聽by interrogating how biology influences our common understanding of legality, morality and science in the age of biotechnology.
A few urgent examples of this development are:
the rewriting of rights and privacy regarding access to global聽bio-banks聽of human DNA by insurance companies, governments and biotech companies聽
redefining ownership of human聽bio-material聽regarding聽population research, potential suspects or pharmaceutical patent regimes聽
shifting legal protection regimes of modified plants, living animals and CRISPR-Cas9 interventions in human embryos聽
increasing biosecurity risks of dual-use research.聽
