Liana Berzins is a Latvian-Australian artist working in the field of expanded drawing, whose current research engages with hybrid cultural identity through the slippage between legibility and abstraction. Her research is positioned within the wider field of diasporic experience, and so speaks to and draws from contemporary and historical narratives of forced migration to negotiate the experience of cultural in-betweenness, drawing from first hand experience as part of the Latvian diaspora in Australia. Using watercolours, inks, coloured pencils, pastels, and yarn, Berzins creates figurative drawings and sculptures that investigate cycles of displacement and development of cultural identity as a diasporic experience using material as process to form sense-making from world-making. Berzins holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours (2021) and a Master of Curating and Cultural leadership (2025) from 91ɫ��Ƭ, and a Master of Commerce from the University of Sydney.
