Aalene is a PhD researcher working on the history of franchise, elections, and democracy in Pakistan between 1947 and 1971. Broadly, her research examines the bureaucratic processes of democratisation, state-making, and citizen-making in South Asia.
Previously, she completed an MSt. in Modern South Asian Studies as an Ertegun Graduate Scholar at the University of Oxford, where her research focused on Partition refugee resettlement in West Punjab and its impact on ideas of citizenship in Pakistan. She has also worked on women leaders鈥 histories in early Pakistani politics.聽
Aalene has taught undergraduate courses on Pakistani history and on gender, nation and politics in colonial South Asia at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and at the Information Technology University (ITU) in Pakistan between 2018 and 2021. She has also served as a tutor and marker at 91色情片. She strongly believes in strengthening the community of South Asian Studies scholars in Sydney and she contributes to collaboration and academic exchange across institutions.
