Artist statement

Exile is a triptych that explores the experience of dispossession and its complex impact on identity.

The wall that separates Israel and Palestine is a 600km long, 8 meter wide mural containing messages, symbols, and graffiti related to Palestinian liberation and struggle. I am interested in how spray paint becomes a tool of resistance in colonial settings.

The work places the border inside the context of so-called Australia, creating a conversation between these two colonised places. The work is an urgent reflection on the effects of displacement and bears the weight of my lived experience as a Palestinian in the diaspora.
