Artist statement

Boundary St reclaims colonial signage through the use of ochre, Wiradjuri designs and my own Indigenous voice. Boundary Streets are often named after the historical boundary that restricted Indigenous people to the outskirts of many Australian towns.

My work disrupts the operation of signage as a colonial technology of control, giving way to Indigenous histories and voices within a place. The signs and symbols of the colonial system are used against itself to challenge the voice of authority on stolen land. The body of work interrogates the continuing colonisation of Indigenous land that is enacted through these placemaking methods.
