Artist statement

Memory Portals explores the way objects, artefacts and souvenirs can hold ties to culture and how the items themselves can act as 'portable homelands'.

As a Chilean-born Australian, my cultural identity is fluid and constantly shifting between two places. Chilean landscapes, voices and memories hum inside the objects I paint. Through layering, abstraction and omissions of material, I reflect on the fragmented nature of memory and the role of these objects in shaping my cultural identity.
