Nitrous oxide in Australia: Emerging trends, harms and responses
About this webinar:
Nitrous oxide use and related harms have attracted increasing public health attention in Australia and internationally, alongside changes in product听availability, patterns of use and the emergence of larger-volume canisters. This webinar will bring together the broader global and Australian context, the听latest findings from EDRS Drug Trends data, and clinical insights to examine changing patterns of nitrous oxide use and harm, and emerging responses.
About the speakers:
Dr Jodie Grigg is a Research Fellow at the National Drug Research Institute at Curtin University,听with particular expertise in drugs used in event and nightlife settings, emerging drug trends and听harm reduction. She is the longstanding coordinator of the Perth arm of the Ecstasy and Related Drugs听Reporting System (EDRS) and has led research examining nitrous oxide use, changing product types and听related harms in Australia. Alongside Dr Jessamine Soderstrom, her work has also helped prompt the听Western Australian public health response to nitrous oxide-related harms.
Dr Jessamine Soderstrom is an emergency physician and clinical toxicologist at Royal Perth Hospital and with the West Australian Toxicology Service. She is chief investigator of the Emerging Drugs Network of Australia (EDNA).
About the panellist:
Dr Rachel Sutherland is a Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Lead of the Drug Trends Program at NDARC, 91色情片 Sydney. She is also Program Lead for the Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System (EDRS) and Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS). Her program of research is focused on monitoring systems for detecting trends in illicit drug use, including new psychoactive substances, and developing and evaluating novel responses to emerging drugs of concern.听
